Opening School Mass

sacred_space.jpg

What a wonderful way to begin our school year on Wednesday! Gathering together is an important part of our Catholic tradition and we were so fortunate to be able to celebrate the Mass together in our Parish Church. We welcomed Fr Namora to our community as our Assistant Priest and listened as he encouraged us to be the best we can be with God's help.

The addition of presenting the School, Vice and House Captains as well as Year 6 presenting their leadership pledges and standing up, ready to lead us in 2023 was a moment in our school's history that we have not been able to celebrate over the past few years due to covid, but a wonderful addition to our Mass.

Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday

Next week begin our journey of preparation for Easter. This season in the church's calendar is called Lent. Lent is the forty-day liturgical season of fasting, special prayer and alms giving in preparation for Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday which is also the start of our Project Compassion fund-raising campaign. Project Compassion is a major fundraiser for Caritas which does extraordinary work around the world, particularly in developing countries.

Kirsty Robertson, Caritas Australia CEO, recently wrote the following about the theme of this year’s campaign: The theme of Project Compassion is ‘For All Future Generations’. This phrase is a powerful affirmation that the good that we do today will extend and impact the lives of generations to come. It is also a call for all of us to play our part in making the world a better place by working together as sisters and brothers in finding long-term solutions to global issues. Throughout Lent, students will be encouraged to donate small amounts of money to their class’ Project Compassion box as part of a commitment to alms giving throughout Lent. We encourage all students to give what they can to this worthy cause.

As a school we will celebrate Ash Wednesday with a prayer celebration. Details will be sent early next week via compass.

Sacrament of Confirmation

A reminder that those families with children in Year 6 who wish to nominate them to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation need to do so via the Parish QkR! App. If your child is not sure who their elected Saint is, please do not worry, they have plenty of time to choose.

Have a great week.
