Protective Behaviours- Day for Daniel

D4D.pngNext week as a school we will be celebrating 'Day for Daniel' on Friday 27th October. Held annually on the last Friday of October, Day for Daniel honours the memory of Daniel Morcombee through education and wearing red. Not just on the day, but as a focus, parents, carers, and educators are encouraged to start a conversation with children and young people about personal safety.

Here at school classes will be conducting protective behaviour lessons each day. The themes of the lessons are:

1. Feeling Safe

2. Being Safe

3. Responding to unsafe situations

4. Consent.

Later in the week when we discuss consent, we will be showing a video to the students developed by the foundation that mentions children's private parts. It names them anatomically correctly and does not focus long on this area, but but it does discuss appropriate andinappropriatee behaviours that the children should look out for.

You can find a copy of the videos we will show here:

K-2: ABCSL 2023 Early Years and Lower Primary -YouTubee

3-6: ABCSL 2023 Upper Primary -YouTubee

If you wish for your child to not view this video as part of their protective behaviour lessons, we understand and ask you to contact your child's class teacher and they will be excluded from the session.

If you wish to view any of the resources we will be using you can find them at https:/danielmorcombeecomm.au/keeping-kids-safe/day-fordaniell-resources/

On Friday we will also be inviting the students to wear a splash of red in support of the foundation.

Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.
