Mother’s Day Breakfast & Cross Country Friday 6th May 2022
Mother’s Day Breakfast & Cross Country Carnival
Calwell Playing Fields
The Mother’s Day Breakfast will be held at the Calwell playing fields tomorrow before our Cross Country Carnival. Breakfast will be available from 7:30am until 8:45am for those who have already purchased food. Please bring along picnic chairs or a rug if you are able to. There will be some chairs available, but we do not have enough for the large number of parents we are expecting.
After breakfast, the children will gather in class groups where their classroom teacher takes the roll and sets them up for the morning. The students from Years 2 to 6 will be in age groups for the morning.
All parents are welcome to stay and help/watch from around the course for the morning. Parents wishing to stay and help at the carnival need to have a current WwVP card and be carrying it with them.
HELPERS Check-in
At 8:50am parents check-in at the recording table on the oval near the canteen block. Present your WwVP card and receive a visitor sticker to wear. Parent helpers will be placed in positions around the track to help direct the children and ensure they stay on the track for their event. All helpers will be able to see their children participating from their supervision positions.
We are looking forward to welcoming many parents to the breakfast and those that can stay for the Cross Country Carnival afterwards.
Morning Drop Off
Students not attending the Mother’s Day breakfast are asked to be dropped off at the oval from 8:30 am onwards. There will be teachers wearing hi-vis vests to help the children out of vehicles and direct them to the appropriate supervised play area.
Students late to school (and arriving before 11am) will need to be signed in at the carnival at the recording desk. Once signed in they will be supported to find their age group.
Please contact the Front Office on 6292 4500 if you have any questions.

Morning Drop off arrangements
From Monday, morning drop off will largely remain the same with students being dropped off on the ring road and a range of staff available to help students exit the vehicle. They will proceed to the hardtop out the back of BASCA, where they will be supervised by teachers on duty. From 8:45 am, students in Yrs 4 & 5 will move to the Peace Garden to be supervised by another staff member.
Lunch Arrangements
From Monday, pre-COVID playground areas will be in operation for students in Yrs 1-6, including ovals, playground, sandpit, sensory playground, basketball & handball courts, nature play, library 4 days a week and other lunchtime clubs. Students will be free to access these areas and will be guided by classroom teachers as to what areas are available each day. Kinder will continue to use their play area for this term in line with normal practice.
Pick-up arrangements
From Monday, we will move back to our normal school Pickers and Parkers after school arrangement. From 3 pm, K & 1 students only will be in the hall ready for pickup. Siblings from other grades will not arrive until 3:05 pm and will be in the hall ready for collection. Please park your car and make your way to the hall, similar to wet weather arrangements. The remainder of the school will be released at 3:05 pm.
Students who are picked up between 3:05 and 3:20 pm are called Parkers and will be in the hall, seated in grade levels. Please park your car similar to wet weather arrangements and come into the hall, via the side door to collect your child/ren.
Students picked up after 3:20 pm are known as Pickers and you will be able to pick up your students in the 4 coloured boxes on the ring road from 3:20 pm. Please note Pickers Lane is only open once cones are removed from the left-hand lane on the ring road. Students who are Pickers assemble on the grassed area behind the hall and will be taken to the school entrance at 3:20 pm.
Cohorting
Although Cohorting is no longer required, we will still continue to minimise the interaction and length of time of organised indoor activities that involve of students from different grade levels.
Parents onsite
We are still required to limit the number of parents we have onsite and ask parents only to attend the school for scheduled appointments, Parkers or to visit the front office.
Prayer for Mothers
God of all Creation,
Mothers are instruments
of compassion,
as you showed us
with Mary,
our universal mother.
We pray for mothers
and those we call 'mum.'
They deserve
your special care.
Thank you
for mothers everywhere,
who give love and support
and want nothing
in return.
Thank you for our Sister
Mother Earth who sustains
and governs us,
and who produces various
fruit with coloured flowers
and herbs.
May we be ever grateful
for this love.
Such a love
can only come
from you,
a loving God.
Amen.
In conjunction with Sharman and CatholicCare, we are able to host the Tuning into Kids program, at the school, free of charge for our families.
The program will begin on Wednesday 25th May @ 5:30 pm in the Library and run for 4 consecutive weeks. The sessions will last approximately 2 hours. This is an extremely beneficial program that is open to all families. A blurb is contained below. In the newsletter next week there will be more information and a link to register your interest.
Tuning Into Kids is an emotion-focused parenting program that provides parents with knowledge on how to raise emotionally intelligent kids through emotional coaching. Parents and carers are provided with skills in emotion coaching, which is about recognising, understanding and managing their own and their child's emotions. When children develop these emotional skills they become more resilient, have more awareness and control over what they do and learn to self soothe so they can calmly focus, concentrate and think when faced with challenges. If you would like to know more, check out the Tuning Into Kids website https://tuningintokids.org.au/
