Dear Families
The Feast of the Assumption
Thursday 15 August celebrates the Assumption of Mary into heaven. The Assumption has been celebrated in the East since about 600 AD, in the West since the end of the 7th century. On Thursday next week, we will remember this day with a liturgy. We see in Mary a woman of faith: she put her whole life on the line for God who asked her to be the mother of his Son. She is also a woman who made a very strong choice for god in her life, whose vocation like ours was to bring Christ to the world. She is the one who now lives with God as we one-day hope to, fully alive in the love and in the life of eternity.
We are asking children who have Rosary beads at home to bring them to school next Thursday as we will pray a decade of the Rosary at this liturgy.
Hats Back on this Week!
Just a reminder that ACT Sunsmart guidelines state that all ACT school students must wear hats from August to the end of May. It is time to dig out that hat which has been at the bottom of the bag or under the bed at home. Thanks for your support with this. A copy of our Sun-Smart Policy is available on our website.
Non uniform Day
This Friday 9th August (tomorrow) we will be having a Non-Uniform Day. Children are encouraged to wear non-uniform to school and bring in a jar full of goodies for out tombola store at our school fete later this year. Further information about this day can be found on the flyer sent out last week or on SZapp.
Rostrum Semi-Final
Last Thursday night, Caitlin Chifley competed in the Rostrum Semi-Final. All the students participating were of an extremely high standard and Caitlin narrowly missed out on placing. We congratulate Caitlin on her amazing speech and outstanding performance.
Wakakirri 2019
Last Thursday the Year 6 students set off to Canberra Theatre for their dress rehearsal and then performed for a packed audience later that night. The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes to get everything ready for the performance is truly amazing. It is certainly an event that the students thoroughly enjoy being a part of and work hard to perfect their roles.
Being able to be involved in such a wonderful experience like Wakakirri demands a great deal of effort from the teachers and parents. I would particularly like to thank all the parents who supported by making costumes or props as well as those who have volunteered to transport items to the theatre. I would also like to sincerely thank the staff members who have given up countless hours designing, creating and painting the backdrops and props. Well done to all on an amazing performance I know everyone thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
Athletics Carnival
A reminder that our athletics carnival will be held at Calwell Playing Fields this Monday 12 August. The 800m event will be held before the carnival at 8.30am. Students participating in this event will need to be at the fields by 8.15am. Parents are responsible for getting children to the oval for this event. We are going to experience a cold snap late this week, so let’s pray that the weather is kind to us on Monday. Please remember to send your children to school in appropriate clothing, a hat and a water bottle. A sausage sizzle lunch is available to those students who order through QKR.
Book Week is in Week 5
Our annual Book Week parade will take place on Monday 19th August, in just over a week. Don’t forget to organise your costume. We do ask that parents don’t go to too much trouble. A simple costume is more than enough.
School Satisfaction Survey
The annual satisfaction survey of parents, students and staff has been conducted on behalf of all Catholic schools in the Diocese this term. The surveys are designed to gather feedback from parents, staff and students about our school and will be used to inform school improvement. Responses are confidential and individuals cannot be identified.
The surveys have been open since July 29 and close this Friday 9th August using the email addresses supplied to the school. If you do not receive an email with a link to the survey, you can access and complete the survey at the following link: https://www.research.net/r/stfrancisofassisiparent2019 We appreciate your time in completing this survey.
Prayers Please
Please keep Miss Andrea Gatt (Year 6 teacher) in your prayers. Andrea’s father passed away peacefully on Monday night. We extend our most heartfelt condolences to Andrea and her family.
May perpetual light shine upon him, may he rest in peace.
Peace and Best Wishes
