Dear Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your continued flexibility and support over the past fortnight. We’ve had a few classes split to accommodate staff leave, illness, and professional learning, and your understanding has helped us keep things running smoothly for our students.
This week, we’ve been cheering on two of our students Dakota and Amelia who have been representing the ACT in AFL at the national championships in Maroochydore, QLD. We’re looking forward to welcoming them back next week and hearing all about their experiences on and off the field.
A special congratulations to Audrey in Year 5, who was recently featured in ACT Parliament for her inspiring advocacy and design work to improve her local playground. Audrey’s vision was sparked by noticing that her younger brother couldn’t play independently due to the playground’s design, and that the nearby Theodore playground was in disrepair. She took it upon herself to research the number of children in the Calwell/Theodore area and assess the suitability of local playgrounds for younger children, finding there was little available. In true Mary MacKillop spirit, Audrey saw a need and did something about it. You can listen to her powerful presentation here. Parliament
Finally, the national NAPLAN norm-referenced data has been released, and we’ve begun reviewing our performance against these benchmarks. We’ll share some insights and analysis in upcoming newsletters.
Blessings and best wishes

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time - Luke 12:32-48
In the Gospel. Jesus tells the disciples to seek security not in the realities of this world but in the treasures of God's kingdom. He exhorts them to be steadfast in their faith, staying ready and prepared even when the fulfillment of that faith is a long time coming. Jesus then gives an illustration of servants who are entrusted with the management of the household. No one knows exactly when the master will return. A wise servant, therefore, will always be vigilant since the master may return at any moment and will expect to find everything in order.
This Gospel illustrates for us the importance of being ready and prepared for the many ways our God visits us in our lives. We are often beset with hardships and failures, pain and anguish, tragedy and disappointment; our dreams, hopes, and plans are frequently thwarted. How do we prepare for such circumstances? What are we to do in dark moments when God seems to be far away, and we grope for some evidence of God's presence?
Let us continue hoping in God's love even though we may not feel it, and keep on waiting in patient trust. Life on earth is a journey in faith and a pilgrimage of hope. For this journey we are given enough light to take the next step. As Saint John Henry Cardinal Newman prayed ‘Lead, kindly Light… Lead thou me on! Keep thou my feet; I do not ask to see the distant scene - one step enough for me.’
