Dear Families,
In these days we might ponder how each of us responds to overwhelming negativity, fear and despair. As we edge closer to Easter, I wonder what thoughts were going through Jesus’ head as he edged closer to Jerusalem and then Calvary. He must have felt many of the emotions that we are feeling now, but deeper and more severe.
That is why God became human — to reassure us that all we feel and fear, he knows and understands. He has been there and done that.
Pupil Free Day - 28th April
To support teacher preparation for the remote learning program accessed from school or home in Term 2, our school will have a pupil free day on Tuesday 28 April in line with all other Catholic systemic primary schools in the ACT. No remote learning program will be offered on this day.
Enrolment Period
The Catholic schools 2021 enrolment period is between Monday 27th April and Friday 22nd May. Unfortunately, this year we will be unable to hold our Open days, so our best way of communicating our enrolment period is though our community. Please let friends know of this enrolment period and share your positive experiences of the school with others. Your feedback is still the defining advertisement for St Francis of Assisi Primary School and the main reason new families tell me they want their child to attend. Our school is truly about ‘people’, ‘community’ and ‘quality education’.
Information packs will be available from the school and online from the start of next term which will explain the online enrolment process for all Catholic schools. Spaces cannot be guaranteed, even for siblings, if the applications are not returned by the end of the enrolment period. Please pass this information on to anyone you know who may be considering enrolling their child in an ACT Catholic school.
We will also send home information to families in our Term 2 Resource Pack.
Resource Packs
The teachers, with a tremendous amount of support from our Classroom Support Team, have put together extensive resource packs to support your child’s learning next term. We will be organising pick-up times for all families on Tuesday 28th April.
We would like to ask that all hands-on materials such as literacy and numeracy items be returned to the school at the end of Term 2. This does not include consumables (ie art materials etc.)
More information regarding this along with the collection processes will be communicated towards the end of the school holidays.
How Do I Know What’s Happening? Everything is Changing so Fast!
Not only has everything about school (and everywhere else) changed, but we don’t know for how long. We also know it could change again with very little notice.
Please know the following:
- Updates will be shared over the holidays via SZapp. This will be our main form of communication. Please do NOT believe everything you see on the TV, Face Book, Social Media, or even hear from other well-meaning parents. If unsure, refer to our messages.
- I will be available to all parents regarding any matter, every day.
- We will stay connected.
School Uniforms
We ask that families do not purchase any new school uniforms ahead of the return to school later this year. This is another burden on families that is not needed right now. We can work out a suitable solution to uniforms when the time comes to return to school.
Thank you
To our very dedicated and wonderful staff, on behalf of all, thank you for your work, care and interest in our children. How fortunate we are in having a group of dedicated professionals who contribute so much to St Francis of Assisi Primary School. Thank you also to Father James and Father Andrew for your work in supporting our families, staff and students.
Thank you to all the parents who have supported your children during this period. Although there have been many challenges in supporting your child’s learning, I thank you all for your patience and understanding as the teachers grapple with this new mode of teaching.
Peace and Best Wishes
Kate Markcrow
Principal
