Dear Families
This week a number of our Year Six students have participated in one of the four masses where they received the Sacrament of Confirmation. 24 students received the Sacrament on Tuesday night, 1 on Wednesday with 1 remaining student receiving the Gift of the Spirit tonight.
Through Confirmation, we believe that we receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Like the apostles in the time after Jesus rose from the dead at the first Easter, we too are in need of the support and guidance of the Holy Spirit in our lives, and the Holy Spirit brings us the gifts of Wisdom – Understanding - Right Judgement – Courage – Knowledge – Reverence, and Wonder and are in awe in God’s presence. No wonder it’s a special day in their lives.
A big thank you to Ms Lisa Conroy (REC), the Year Six teachers Miss Andrea Gatt, Mr Matt Smith and Mrs Michelle Marshall, our Parish Priests Fr James and Fr Tony Percy (Vicar General), who presided over the reception of the Sacrament
Mrs Wendy Hodgson
We were advised last week that Wendy Hodgson, Office Manager of the Early Learning Centre at Holy Family Primary School, suffered a mild stroke followed by a brain haemorrhage. Wendy went to her eternal rest on Tuesday evening. We keep Wendy, her husband Peter, and extended family in our thoughts and prayers. Wendy has worked as Office Manager at the ELC at Holy Family since 2012.
We also hold the Holy Family community in prayer at this time.
Eternal rest grant to Wendy, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon her. May her soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.’
Thank You
I had the good fortune of spending the last 2 weeks in Hawaii, having a relaxing holiday and spending quality time with my family. The weather was beautiful and warm, however, it was a real shock to the system coming back to the freezing cold.
A big thank you to Mrs Tiffany Reedy who took over the reins whilst I was away. I really appreciate Tiffany’s hard-work and professionalism.
Year 5 Camp
Next week, our Year 5 students will be in Sydney attending their Year 5 camp. The teachers have been working extremely hard to get this camp organised and create an enjoyable and educational experience for all. During their time away, they will visit Mrs Macquarie’s chair, The Chinese Gardens and enjoy a trip to the zoo.
They will leave school bright and early next Wednesday morning ready for their exciting explorations. We look forward to hearing about their wonderful adventures when they return home. You can follow them and see all the exciting things that they are doing on our Facebook page.
Peace and Best Wishes

Merici College 60th Anniversary Concert
#MERICI60 CONCERT
As part of Merici College’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, a very special concert and fundraiser will be held on Friday 9 August and Saturday 10 August in the College Auditorium, Wise Street Braddon. The concert starts at 7.00pm (arrival and seating at 6.30pm) on both nights. Walk down memory lane as each decade is revisited through dance, music, drama performances, Alumni reflections and current students highlighting life at Merici College. Tickets and refreshment packages available at www.trybooking.com/BCWAY. All funds raised will be used to improve indoor and outdoor learning spaces for students.
With winter upon us, it’s important to remember that Canberra has lots of health options that don’t involve a trip to a hospital emergency department. Many of these are free and available after hours.
Walk-in Centres provide free, one-off treatment of minor injury and illness, including colds and flu. They’re a great choice for children over 2 years of age – children under 2 should see their GP.
Walk-in Centres are open from 7.30am to 10pm, every day of the year. They are staffed by highly skilled nurses who can provide you with a sick certificate and in some cases, medication, saving you time and money. The service is free and no appointments are necessary. Walk-in Centres are located in Tuggeranong, Belconnen and Gungahlin.

In June and July, hats go away!
Cancer Council ACT recommends school students and teacher’s leave their hats at home or replace it with a beanie during the June and July winter months. As we enter into a period where the UV levels are (under 3) sun protection behaviour (i.e. hat wearing and sunscreen application) is discouraged due to the low risk of potential UV skin damage and the need for students to be exposed to Vitamin D.
Hats will go back on from 1 August 2019.
Woolworths Earn and Learn 2019
St Francis of Assisi Primary School is again participating in the Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion this year.
All completed sticker sheets can be dropped off at Woollies or we have a collection point here at the school library.
Spare sticker sheets are available at the front office or the library.
