Dear Parents and Guardians,
On the last day of Term 1, I would like to take a moment to express my gratitude for your ongoing support and commitment to our school community. It has been a busy but rewarding term, filled with learning, growth, and fun-filled experiences for our students.
I would like to give a shout-out to our dedicated teachers who spend countless hours working behind the scenes to ensure our students are provided with a safe, happy environment to access high-quality teaching every day. This break offers us all a chance to rest, rejuvenate, and spend quality time with loved ones.
Nuts reminder.
Just a reminder that our school is a nut-free environment. Recently, we have had a couple of instances where products containing nuts have come into school. Can you please check to ensure all products sent to school are nut-free. I thank you in advance for helping to keep our students safe.
Open Days
We are fast approaching the enrolment period for 2025. Our school & ELC open days are Thursday, 9th of May and Wednesday, 29th of May. We will host school and ELC tours from 9:30-11 am and 3:30-6 pm on both days. You will soon see road signs out advertising these days over the holiday break. You do not need to book an appointment on these days and times. Just turn up for a tour and an information pack.
The most significant contributor to enrolments in the school is our current parent body's word of mouth. Can I please ask you to like and share our material on Facebook during this period and encourage any parents interested in potential enrolment to come along on one of these days. We can also accommodate visits on other days, with notice, if these days and times are unsuitable by calling the front office on 62924500.
The Catholic Schools' official enrolment period is from 1st -31st May. We are already beginning to receive enrolment enquiries and applications for Kinder 2025, which have been submitted through our school website. Enrol Now! @ St Francis of Assisi Primary School - Calwell. If you are currently enrolled in a Catholic ELC, you must complete a new Kindergarten 2025 enrolment through the above link.
If you want to enrol in our Early Learning Centre for 2025, the enrolment forms can be found here: St Francis of Assisi Primary School ELC - Calwell.
Pupil Free Day
Next Term, students in all Catholic Schools will not return to school until Tuesday, the 30th of April, due to a Pupil Free day on Monday, the 29th of April. Our staff will participate in a Staff Development Day on the designated Pupil Free Day.
Thank you once again for your unwavering dedication to our school community. Your partnership is invaluable, and it is what makes our school truly special.
Wishing you a wonderful holiday break.
Kind regards
Sean
THIRD SUNDAY OF EASTER YEAR B
Gospel
Luke 24:35-48- It was written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.
REFLECTION
The first sentence of the gospel reading sets the context for the themes of today: ‘Jesus was made known to them in the breaking of the bread.’ Who is the Jesus that they recognised? And what does this recognition require?
Jesus is the servant of the God of the early ancestors, the long awaited messiah, and the innocent sufferer portrayed in the prophetic tradition. He is the fulfilment of our deepest aspirations. When we gather around the table for the sacramental meal, we encounter the Risen Lord. There the sacred traditions of our religious heritage are opened for us and we are enabled to recognise him in the traditions and in the breaking of the bread.
In order to encounter the Risen Lord in the breaking of the bread and in the breaking open of the word, we need docile hearts ready to embrace the deepest meaning of our religious heritage. We need hearts that have been purified in the love of God; hearts that have been totally transformed. The commandment of love requires nothing less.
Having recognised the Risen Lord, we, like the people described in the first reading, must live reformed lives. Having recognised the Risen Lord, we, like the people addressed in the second reading, must be obedient to God's commandment of love. Having recognised the Risen Lord, we, like the disciples portrayed in the gospel, must preach the good news of God's forgiveness to all nations. Easter faith assures us that all of this is possible.

Futsal Gala Day Parent report- 4th April 2024
Wow – what a day filled with nervous energy, excitement and fun!!
Last week students from Years 2,3 & 4 represented St Francis of Assisi at the Australian Futsal Association 2024 Schools Program. There was such strong interest in the day, that we had 74 students across 10 teams play. Our two Under 8 mixed teams, the Mumba’s and Sea Snakes, even made it to the semi-finals! Congratulations U8s!
The Sea Snakes started out slow with a 1-0 loss to Holy Family (Blue) but quickly settled into the game. From first-time futsal players to seasoned soccer fans, the Sea Snakes displayed great camaraderie, teamwork and good sportsmanship, being sure to share the ball and shake hands with the opposition at the end of each game. The quarter-final for the Sea Snakes was a nail‑biter with a nil‑all draw at full time, seeing us go to a penalty shootout. The team secured the win with a final score of 3-2.
The semi-final for the Sea Snakes saw us back challenging Holy Family (Blue). While the Sea Snakes scored the match's first goal six minutes in, it was disallowed following a protest from the opposition. The team got back to it, working hard to secure the win, but with just one minute to go, Holy Family (Blue) slipped a ball into the net, seeing them progress to the Grand Final match.
A big thank you to coach Debbi Fluke, for keeping our spirits high and reminding us that having fun, working as a team and trying our best was what was important.
On behalf of the participating students, thank you to all the parent volunteers who coached or assisted the teams, the teachers who attended to keep us safe, and a big shout out to Erin Steele (School Community Council Executive Member for Sports Programs) for organising our School participation in this event. Without their energy and effort, participation in events such as these would not have been possible.
